Rules of Tennis

Some experts believe tennis dates back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. However, the majority of historians feel the origins of the game started with 11th century French Monks. In 1873 Major Walter C Wingfield borrowed rules from squash, badminton, and court tennis, the game invented by the Monks, to patent the rules for a game very similar to modern tennis. We can all thank Major Wingfield for providing the starting block for the rules you see below.
